Basic Plot

A teenage honors student living in Japan is shocked, yet skeptical when he finds a journal labeled ‘Death Note’ lying on the grass outside of his school. His curiosity influences him to pick up the book and take it home. Soon, he discovers that according to the ‘instructions’, he whose name is written on the Death Note will die. After experimenting with it on a criminal, he finds that it is true. And his journey to change the world begins.

Characters

Light Yagami- The main character who is very intelligent, cunning, and determined. He wants to punish criminals who have done wrong.

L (Lawliet Ryuzaki)- The detective seeking to put “KIRA” Aka Light, to justice by finding out his identity and ending his killing spree.

Ryuk- The shinigami (god of Death) who used to own Light’s Death Note. He loves apples and is entertained greatly by human struggle.

Misa Armane- A character introduced later on in the series, who also owns a Death Note and sympathizes with Light’s motives.

Soichiro Yagami- Light’s father, who is also the head investigator for the case of stopping KIRA.

Near- Also introduced later in the series. He is an investigator trying to stop KIRA (Light), and ends up getting further than L.

This series is very sad and overall depressing, but also extremely addictive.
I highly recommend it to anyone.
