Pet Photography. Awww.

Hi There! And welcome to another addition of Alex’s Photography Tutorials! If your reading for the first time, My name is Alex and i have been chosen to write tutorials and other photography related articles here on Vitalviper.com! Remember, there’s a different article everyday on different subjects! So be sure to check back!

Well, it’s been a hetic week for me, Not only at college studying and working with Photography, writing 1000 words essays and remembering about a billion uses and buttons on different cameras and bla bla.  but also at home with my little brother cheese yapping how hard his day was. (yeah right), so I’m going to keep it short and simple this week, Now i’m going to apologize to those in advance who don’t have a pet, sorry :( , but you can still read on if you like, just encase you, or maybe you might get a important urgent, work assignment to take pictures and get paid by your lovely granny 25 cents for a picture perfect frame of her pet man eating spider.

The basic’s of pet photography is the most obvious, you have to have a camera, so go ahead turn your cameras on! Hurrah, you have completed the first test, Just kidding! the first thing important in Pet photography is Location or Background! It’s super super super important that you have a natrual looking background for your pet, as shown in the photo above, if you can’t afford to go to the park, or your just Lazy like me, use your garden as a natural backdrop, having some plants and some lush green grass might help too!

Now, it’s hard keeping your pet in focus and actually on the camera, usually they go absolutely mad, running around like theres no tomorow, and you can’t seem to capture them because it way blurry! there’s one trick to keep them still that will always work, which is, to get them to run around! Play with them for a while, and get them worn out so they will have to lie down.. this is best as it’s always the best natural pose or maybe using some food might help them to sit and be patient (works for me in a photo shoot)

This always gives you the best shot, which is demonstrated in my photography, I let my rabbit run mad around the garden, and it was so tired it had to stop and didn’t care about me, because she didn’t want to run any more, simple. It’s also best to try get a nice background, like i mentioned earlier.

Or if your feeling up to it, you can try capture your pet whilst in full motion! (this is extremely hard, especially with turtles) by using sports mode or a fast shutter speed on your camera (to find out how to change this or perform this, go to back to last weeks article, it mentions pretty much everything you need to know about shutter speeds, which is basically the speed the camera captures the photo)

So then, you could get your Dog running! or your snake flying! or your turtle firin’ hiz lazor.

Well, that’s all Vital viper has paid me for to write about, hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial, and make sure to read next weeks tutorial!

Thanks

Alex!
